Refurbishment and conversion of the grade II listed Hall

The practice was commissioned for this exciting conservation project by Reilly Developments Ltd in 1999. The manor house was originally constructed in 1798 for cotton magnate Henry Sudell, it soon after became the home (in 1827) of John Fowden Hindle, High Sheriff of the County, before eventually becoming the property of the Thwaites family, in 1849

The work involved the refurbishment and conversion of the grade II listed Hall to form apartments, together with new residences in the wings, stable block, farm buildings and a Grade II* listed Orangery house.

The parkland provides a gallops and exercise area for race horses, which are accommodated in a new build racing stables for 80 horses including residential accommodation for the manager, staff and clients.

As with all projects to Listed/Historic structures, the development involved extensive consultations with English Heritage and other interested groups, and allowed the practice to build upon our good relationships with these various bodies.
