The Great North Run is the world’s largest half marathon and takes place annually in and around Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Alban Cassidy, chartered town planner who heads up Cassidy + Ashton’s Preston planning team, took part in this year’s event – his seventh in the past ten years.

St Catherine’s Hospice, based in Lostock Hall near Preston, cares for patients and families across Chorley, Preston and South Ribble who are affected by life-shortening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease and heart failure.

Through this year’s run, Alban has so far raised £2,035 for St Catherine’s, bringing his total fundraising for the hospice to almost £10,000 over recent years.

He said: “Cassidy + Ashton has a unique relationship with St Catherine’s. Not only has our firm delivered a number of architectural projects to improve facilities for palliative care and other services, but many of our staff and clients know friends and family members who have received care down the years.

“Running is a real passion of mine and it’s an honour to be able to do something I enjoy while raising funds and awareness of such a worthy cause. I’d like to thank all our staff, clients and partners who have supported with their contributions and through their kind words and encouragement.”

Cassidy + Ashton has delivered a variety of important projects on behalf of St. Catherine’s Hospice over the past 18 years. This includes a £2m phased conversion and extension of an old barn on the hospice estate into The Mill, a well-known café and events venue for the local and business community.

The firm is continuing to support the hospice with projects including a new ‘drive-in’ donation centre to make it easier to people to drop off items which the hospice can sell to raise the funds which support its work.

Tracy Foster, community and events fundraising lead, St Catherine’s Hospice said: “We’re incredibly thankful for Alban and everyone at Cassidy + Ashton for their continued dedication to St Catherine’s.

“Their fundraising, expertise and partnership on key development projects have had a lasting impact on our hospice and the community we serve. Alban’s commitment, both personally and professionally, truly reflects the spirit of care and collaboration that helps sustain our work.”
