Green Light for 225 Acre Mixed-Use Development in Blackpool

Cassidy + Ashton has successfully secured a resolution for planning permission to be granted for a substantial mixed-use urban extension scheme at Whyndyke Farm on the outskirts of Blackpool, Lancashire.

Plans for the 225-acre/90 hectare site, situated on land between Mythop Road, Preston New Road and the M55, include 1,400 new homes, a primary school, two shopping areas, a pub, health centre and a community centre. In addition, almost 50 acres/20 hectares has been allocated for industrial, storage or distribution use.

Other elements of the scheme include car parking, sports pitches and allotments, as well as natural habitats such as ponds and watercourses. Highways infrastructure will also be created to link the site to existing roadways.

Straddling both Fylde and Blackpool Council boundaries, the development is expected to support the creation of several hundred jobs and will help to meet the national demand for extra school places, as well as deliver on the Government’s housebuilding agenda.

Cassidy + Ashton secured the resolution on behalf of the Whyndyke Consortium.  It is expected that it will take around 15 years until the site is developed in full.
