Opening launch of Kate’s Corner at Ellesmere Port Hospital
New dementia care facilities were launched at Ellesmere Port Hospital today, including a next-step-home facility, a communal lounge and an activity/nostalgia room.
Kate’s Corner, inspired by the experience of Kathleen Herbert, 90, and her family when she spent time in hospital last year, is a self contained studio apartment within the hospital, built to provide a space for terminally ill patients and their families.
Kathleen’s son, Ron, cut the ribbon to open Kate’s corner.
Works also include a large communal lounge space replacing a disused nursing station. This has been kitted out with dementia friendly furniture and finishes to create a ‘home from home’ environment. In addition a four bedroom ward has been converted into a nostalgia/activity room.
