The two-bedroom bungalows, designed by Cassidy + Ashton, will increase the over 55’s accommodation at Fairhaven’s Penwortham site to 48 residential homes.

Designed as high-quality independent retirement homes, the planned bungalows include open living spaces, two spacious double bedrooms, private patios and views over the landscaped gardens. Each bungalow will have access to off-street parking and storage facilities.

Crownlee also operates a private community centre, which as part of the expansion project, will receive significant investment to upgrade its communal and restaurant facilities.

Cassidy + Ashton is delivering architect and planning services for the project. The practice designed the original Crownlee bungalows constructed in the early 1980’s.

Work is scheduled to commence onsite in August 2021 with Lancashire-based Barnfield Group Ltd appointed as the contractors. The bungalows are due to be completed by Spring 2022.

Andrew Atkinson, managing director at Fairhaven, said: “We are extremely proud to partner with two leading North West firms to deliver this project. We have a long professional history with Cassidy + Ashton who designed of the original bungalows.

“Crownlee is a much loved and sought-after retirement location. The addition of these eight properties will help meet local demand by providing first class housing which promotes independence and well-being in later life.”

Alistair Baines, chairman at Cassidy + Ashton and head architect on the project said: “As the designers of the original Crownlee development, Cassidy + Ashton is really pleased to have the opportunity to continue our longstanding association with Fairhaven which spans nearly 40 years.”

“This new development resonates with our philosophy of making better and healthier environments for people to live in and to support local communities.”

Barnfield Group’s managing director Tim Webber said: “As a leading developer and contractor in North West, we are always keen to forge new partnerships and look forward to redefining the concept of retirement living in Central Lancashire.

“Embedding sustainability and renewable technologies, these properties will not only be built to the highest of standards but also be very efficient to operate.”

Established in 1985 Fairhaven is a private provider of managed retirement home developments. It currently manages approximately 200 retirement houses across seven locations in Lancashire including: Preston, Clitheroe, Bamber Bridge, Hoghton, Leyland, Lostock Hall and Parbold.

Its facilities provide living communities where residents enjoy the security of homeownership with the benefit of property services and dedicated management.
