Ribbon-cutting ceremony unveils £14m Lancaster riverside HQ for Italian manufacturer
GVS Filter Technology UK has officially opened its new £14m manufacturing facility and office complex in Lancaster, marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony with company representatives, principal architect Cassidy + Ashton, main contractor Conlon Construction, and the wider project supply chain.
The project transformed a 24,000sqm former Sofidel site on Caton Road, Lancaster into a sustainable and captivating riverside location, delivering a transformative UK headquarters that pays homage to the Italian manufacturer’s heritage.
Staff have now relocated from GVS’ previous UK base in Morecambe, with all c.200 employees moving into the new two-storey, low-carbon waterside development, supporting the company’s drive towards net zero.
With roots stretching back to 1979, GVS manufactures highly technical filtration systems for healthcare, life science, safety and automotive sectors. The new Lancaster facility brings together advanced manufacturing and office accommodation under one roof, creating a modern base for its UK operations.
Leveraging extensive experience in designing and delivering sustainable projects, Cassidy and Ashton incorporated renewable energy and heat transfer management systems into the design.
The new headquarters also features a sophisticated drainage system that channels surface water through grassed swales within the car park, leading to a meticulously landscaped wildlife pond, before ultimately releasing the water into the River Lune.
Cassidy + Ashton also secured planning permission for the ambitious project with their in house expertise.
The completed development has transformed an existing warehouse into GVS’s new production facilities, comprising injection moulding and high-tech filter manufacturing, carried out under cleanroom standards. The project also delivered space for warehousing and storage, plus a striking reception, office and administration area.
This continues Cassidy + Ashton’s longstanding track record of delivering high-spec projects together in the North West, including the transformation of the Lancaster University Management School.
