The Grange Park development is a transformative social housing scheme that integrated two previously vacant sites into the wider estate. The project delivered a versatile mix of 133 new homes, including 96 houses ranging from one to six bedrooms, seven bungalows, and 30 sheltered apartments.
As Lead Designers, Cassidy + Ashton focused on creating a development that feels naturally integrated into the existing neighbourhood while providing modern, high-standard living spaces and enhanced public realms.
Sustainability & Public Realm
A key driver of the design was the creation of a sustainable and community-focused environment:
Energy Efficiency: The development utilises renewable energy technologies, including solar panels and battery storage for all houses. Thirty properties feature air source heat pumps, providing an eco-friendly alternative to traditional heating and reducing carbon emissions.
Community Infrastructure: Beyond housing, the project introduced significant public realm improvements, including a new children’s playground, enhanced open green spaces, and improved pedestrian and cycle access to encourage active travel.
Inclusive Design: The variety of property types—from one-bedroom apartments to large six-bedroom family homes—ensures the development supports a multi-generational community.
Impact & Recognition
The project has been praised for its seamless integration into the local area and its contribution to Blackpool’s housing needs.
“To walk round Grange Park it looks like the properties have always been there, they fit in so well and enhance the overall appearance of the estate. These homes have helped meet local housing needs… which are also more energy efficient.”
Cllr Mark Smith, Blackpool Council Cabinet Member for Levelling Up – Place
