External Refurbishment & Material Palette

The original property required a significant visual update . Our design team replaced the existing red shingle roof with high-quality natural slate, immediately bringing the building in line with the classic styling of neighbouring homes. The dated brickwork plinth was faced with contemporary stone cladding to tie in with the site’s existing stone boundary walls, while the main body of the house was re-rendered in a crisp, smooth finish.

To the front, the original porch was demolished and replaced with a full-height glazed atrium that acts as a strong focal point. To accommodate the client’s requirement for a substantial leisure facility without overcrowding the main house, we positioned the new wing to the side, bridging the gap with a minimalist glass walkway. This maintains a sense of visual separation and allows light to pass deep into the plot.

Spatial Planning & The Leisure Wing

At the rear, the house was opened up to establish a better connection to the mature private gardens. Following the removal of an existing garden room, we introduced a wide rear extension to create a large, open-plan family living and dining area immediately off the kitchen.

The new two-storey leisure wing functions as a dedicated wellness hub. The ground floor contains the swimming pool, steam room, and sauna facilities, while a dedicated gym space occupies the first floor. To maximise natural light and blur the line between indoor and outdoor spaces, both the new family room and the pool hall feature extensive floor-to-ceiling structural glazing and sliding doors that open directly onto the stone patio.
