Work includes converting an existing vacant Youth Centre into a temporary Primary School for Hunsley Primary. The Youth Centre is located within the curtilage of South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College in Melton, East Yorkshire.

In September 2015 Hunsley Primary School was officially launched by the South Hunsley Educational Trust and took residence within its temporary location. The building was fully refurbished and re-ordered to provide teaching accommodation for 60 children whilst its permanent location is developed in Brough, East Yorkshire.

Work on the new purpose-built new Primary School is expected be complete in time for the September intake in 2018. It will built with a wildlife reserve, offering pupils the chance to enrich their understanding of the natural world.

Hunsley Primary is East Yorkshire’s first Free School and caters for the increase in demand for primary school places locally and forms part of the first phase of Brough South’s 100-acre mixed-use development that will accommodate homes, leisure, commercial and industrial businesses.

Lucy Hudson, head of Hunsley Primary, said: “The multi-academy trust has worked closely with the Department for Education as part of this development and we look forward to working with them further to deliver the new school building.

“It is fantastic to be able to share news of our new school site with our families, partners and with parents interested in sending their children to Hunsley Primary.”
